TMA Challenge 2017

        The Treasury Markets Association (TMA) announced the winners of the "TMA Challenge 2017" on 19 January 2017.  


       Building on the overwhelming responses and success from the TMA Challenge in past three years, this is the fourth time TMA organised “TMA Challenge for students from ten local universities in Hong Kong. The competition aimed to enrich students with professional knowledge on offshore RMB products. The TMA invited nine large institutions to provide internship interview opportunities to the winners. Thomson Reuters organised a technical training to assist the competition participants with their project. Each registered team was also offered with a trail account of Thomson Reuter’s Flagship Market Data and Analytic Tools. In addition, a presentation training sponsored by Goldman Sachs was provided to the 8 teams shortlisted for the final round 

       Each participating team was required to submit a report of their predicted CNH Hong Kong Interbank Offered Rate (CNH HIBOR) published on  2 December 2016. 29 submissions were received and 8 teams were shortlisted for the final stage of the competition which was held on 19 January 2017 at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority premises in IFC Two, Central. 

       The panel of judges included Mr Chordio Chan, General Manager, Head of Investment, Investment Management, Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, Mr Chin Chin Fai, Deputy General Manager, Global Markets, Bank of Communications Co., Ltd, HK Branch, Mr Lawrence Lam, Senior Advisor, Greater China, National Australia Bank Limited and Ms Millie Law, Consulting Manager, PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting HK Limited. 

       The panel judges were very impressed by the students’ interest in foreign exchange market and global economic outlook. They commended the high calibre of all the finalists and the detailed analysis and presentations.  The students were all passionate about their works. 

       The champion and the 1st runner-up were from the University of Hong Kong and the 2nd runner up was a single member team from Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
