General exemption policy for admission as TMA Full Member

In considering whether a candidate with a particular relevant professional qualification is eligible for seeking exemption from certain module(s) of the TMA Level 2 Training Programme (i.e. Graduate Certificate in Treasury Market Management), the Professional Membership Committee (PMC) will consider the programme of the qualification awarded with respect to the following criteria:

      Admission standard

      Qualification Framework Level

      Content and learning outcomes

Quality of provider of the programme

The PMC will also take into account the relevant professional qualifications, years of experience and position held of an applicant in considering giving exemption. For the time being, the following qualifications have been considered by the PMC for exemption of the required professional qualifications criteria:

(a) Exemption Policy for holders of relevant internationally recognised qualifications

With relevant experience:

A candidate with the qualifications of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) or Financial Risk Management (FRM) and having at least 5 years relevant experience in the past 10 years and holding a managerial or specialist position is eligible to attain the TMA Full membership requirement.

OR

Without relevant experience:

A candidate with the qualifications of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) or Financial Risk Management (FRM) should enroll and pass Module 1: Financial Markets and Treasury Management of the Graduate Certificate in Treasury Market Management to attain the TMA Full membership requirement.

(b) Exemption Policy for experienced treasury staff without internationally recognised qualifications

A candidate without qualifications of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) or Financial Risk Management (FRM) but having at least 10 years relevant experience and holding a managerial or specialist position should enroll and pass the Code of Conduct and Practice of the TMA examination (Advanced Level) to attain the TMA Full membership requirement.

Applications under these exemption criteria will be considered on a case by case basis and will be subject to the final decision and approval of the Membership Sub-Committee and Professional Membership Committee of TMA.
