TMA is pleased to have invited three local and international renowned academic professors to share with TMA members and market participants on the topic of Islamic Finance/Investment: Rent-Seeking, Risk-Sharing and One Belt One Road with synopsis below:

   Rent-seeking vs risk-sharing in Islamic finance/investment

   Is Islamic finance/investment relevant to 'One Belt, One Road'?

 

The talk will focus on the practicalities of Islamic finance, and potential legal/regulatory issues will also be highlighted.

Dr Marizah Minhat BCom (Hons), MSc, PhD, CFP, CA(M), CA(ANZ), ACA, ACCA

Dr Minhat is the Assistant Director of the International Centre for Management and Governance Research (ICMGR) based at Edinburgh Napier University, United Kingdom. As a Lecturer in Finance, she has taught conventional finance and Islamic finance in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore. She is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). She has published in the areas of Islamic finance and corporate governance that includes managerial incentives and financial reporting. Her scholarly works were published in Journal of Financial Stability, Economics Letters, Applied Economics, Business Ethics: A European Review, and Research in International Business and Finance. She has also co-authored a book chapter on Islamic Finance for Financial Management Theory and Practice EMEA edition (published by Cengage Learning). Dr Minhat sits on the International Advisory Board of Asian Journal of Accounting Perspectives. She is also a Director of Ethical Finance and Investment Research (EFAIR) Foundation. She holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance, and an Msc in Banking and Finance from the University of Stirling, United Kingdom. She is currently completing an LLM in Financial Law and Regulation at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Dr Nazam Dzolkarnaini BCom (Hons) MSc PhD PGCHEPR ACA(ANZ) CFP FHEA

Programme Leader, Masters programmes, International Corporate Finance and Islamic Banking and Finance

University of Salford

 

Dr Dzolkarnaini is a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, and the Programme Leader for Masters programmes in International Corporate Finance and Islamic Banking and Finance at the University of Salford, United Kingdom. He is very instrumental in the development of Islamic Banking and Finance programme at Salford, and also a Visiting Scholar in Islamic Economics and Finance at the Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy and a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards, Inc., USA. His research on corporate finance and Islamic finance were published in Economics Letters, Applied Economics, and Business Ethics: A European Review among others. He has also co-authored a book chapter on Islamic Finance for Financial Management Theory and Practice EMEA edition (published by Cengage Learning). He sits on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Islamic Finance, and International Journal of Excellence in Islamic Banking and Finance, and on the International Advisory Board of Asian Journal of Accounting Perspectives. He is affiliated with the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA), British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS) and International Council of Islamic Finance Educators (ICIFE). Dr Dzolkarnaini is the Chairman of Ethical Finance and Investment Research (EFAIR) Foundation. He holds a PhD, and an Msc in Finance from the University of Stirling, United Kingdom.
