For the last few years, mindfulness has been getting a lot of attention and coverage.   Large companies, such as Google, Facebook and Goldman Sachs have been implementing  large-scale mindfulness programs. Thousands of employees have gone through their programs showing that there is a definite impact on leadership skills by practicing mindfulness. TMA is delighted to have invited Dr Helen Chan, former Assistant Director of Immigration, HKSAR, to introduce with TMA Members the concept and benefits of mindfulness with synopsis as follows:

(a)   Why mindfulness?

(b)   What is mindfulness?

(c)   Benefits of mindfulness

(d)   How to become mindful?

(e)   Mindful leadership

The presentation will start with an introduction on why mindfulness is gaining popularity in the past decade and its application worldwide, what mindfulness is and its benefits.  The audience will be introduced to various mindfulness practices.  The last part of the presentation will cover why mindful leadership is important, what are the attributes of a mindful leader and how it can benefit the organization as a whole.

Dr Helen Chan had worked with the Hong Kong Government for 28 years and retired as the Assistant Director of Immigration. After her retirement from the government, she spends most of her time in volunteer work. She is now in charge of two NGOs in Hong Kong, one for promoting happiness and the other is to nurture young talents in the media industry. As the director of the Salon Media Lab, she also promotes the use of media to bring about social innovation and changes. Dr Chan is also an academia and part-time lecturer.  She has 4 master degrees in different discipline and a PhD in Chinese Criminal Law.  She is now pursuing her 2nd PhD and her research is on Mindfulness and Innovation.
