2010年6月8日

   Press release

Collaboration between the Treasury Markets Association
and the Hang Seng Management College

On 8th June 2010 the Treasury Markets Association (TMA) and the Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) signed a collaboration agreement to promote the development of the new TMA professional qualifications among the tertiary education sector. At the ceremony held at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the agreement was signed by Dr. H. S. Chui, the President of HSMC and Mr. Stephen Ng, Chief Operations Officer of TMA. The ceremony was attended by the members of the TMA Executive Board and other TMA committees as well as staff and representatives from HSMC.

Mr. Eddie Yue, the Chairman of the TMA, expressed his full support to the collaboration. According to Mr. Yue, “These collaborative efforts are beneficial to both institutions and to the development of Hong Kong's treasury markets in promoting high level of professionalism which is essential for Hong Kong to maintain its competitive edge.”

According to Dr H. S. Chui, the President of HSMC, “HSMC will collaborate with TMA to develop selected modules within the curriculum of HSMC’s Bachelor Degree Programme that map the body of knowledge within the new TMA qualifications. Such modules will be designated as ‘TMA accredited’ modules. We will also provide scholarship to promote qualified students to become members of TMA”.

The new TMA professional qualification is scheduled to be launched in 2011. According to Mr. Philip Lau (Chairman, TMA Professional Membership Committee and TMA Executive Board member), “This is an important milestone of TMA’s continuous efforts to upgrade the professional qualification regime for treasury market practitioners.”

A Steering Committee will be established to spearhead the collaboration which will initially include Mr. Stephen Ng of the TMA, Mr. Peter Wong (an Executive Board member of the TMA and the Chief Financial Officer of HSMC) and Dr. David Chui (Associate Professor of the HSMC). According to Dr. H. S. Chui, “HSMC is committed to supporting TMA’s efforts in the building of talent pool in Hong Kong to support Hong Kong’s continuous success as an international financial centre. This includes the initiative of the Young Treasurers Club to promote the awareness and interest among undergraduate students of the development of the treasury markets.”

HSMC is set up by the Hang Seng School of Commerce (HSSC) as a new post-secondary college registered under the Education Ordinance CAP 320 to offer programmes at degree level. Starting from September 2010, HSMC will launch three degree programmes, namely, Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours), Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Supply Chain Management and Bachelor of Translation with Business (Honours). All three programmes have been accredited and approved by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). The College also plans to launch the Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours) in 2011, subject to the final approval by the HKCAAVQ.

According to Dr. H. S. Chui, “Over the past 30 years, Hang Seng School of Commerce has been a model of pedagogical distinction, nurturing competent, caring and talented students with business expertise and a sense of social responsibility. With our traditional excellence in business education and our commitment to quality education, the new degree programmes offered by HSMC will continue to produce excellent graduates to meet the growing needs of the business community in Hong Kong.”
